Online broadcast - Wimbledon WTA Slam Final Tennis Live - Petra Kvitova v Maria Sharapova Finals - tennis.trueonlinetv.com
Although Sharapova has advanced to the final without dropping a set, she hasn’t played flawless tennis in London thus far. She’s shown that she can outhit anyone on tour using power and aggression, traits that will likely be matched by her opponent in this final match-up.
If Maria can out-strike another opponent in Kvitova on Saturday, she will certainly find herself frustrating the 21 year old Czech. Although Sharapova is only three years older than Kvitova, she has countless years and major match play experience working in her favor.
But as we saw in her semifinal match against Sabine Lisicki on Thursday, the serve tends to be her undoing. Sharapova dropped the first three games and double-faulted a whopping 13 times in the match, but her toughness was on display as she rallied to take 12 of the last 16 games against Lisicki to complete her 6-4, 6-3 win.
This is where Maria has the advantage in this match. Although Kvitova has all the tools to match Sharapova from the baseline and overwhelm her with her big, lefty serve, she won’t be acclimated to playing on tennis’ biggest stage, while Sharapova will be taking the court for her fifth major final after winning three of her first four Grand Slam final matches.
But Kvitova won’t wilt under the pressure and should be able to stay in the match with her serve. However, experience will be the key, allowing Sharapova to claim her fourth major title.
